Just wading through the reams of media coverage I've been collecting on Bright Star since it first premiered in Cannes in May and I came across this interview with Ben Whishaw.
It's probably the most relaxed I've seen him in an interview, normally he just comes across as a bag of nervous tension. In it he just oozes with enthusiasm for the role and experience of making it in a way I haven't seen from him before.
Just want to ruffle his hair, pinch his cheeks and give him a large slice of cake to eat.
(Interview is in two parts)
- 23:50 The White Ribbon: an amazing piece of cinema. Best thing I've seen in long time. Have never known a cinema so silent at end of a film. #
- 23:52 Too tired to go to bed. Think I'll just curl up here on the sofa. #
- 08:14 Canny marketing from Muse. Just as they round off their London dates at O2 announce a Wembley date for next year bit.ly/jYlaL #
- 09:40 Time for pancakes. Or is that pancake time? #
- 11:31 Just finished editing my pics from the Muse O2 gig on Thurs bit.ly/1ogAoN #
- 13:09 Absolutely not getting out of my jimmy-jams until it stops raining. So there. #
- 16:50 Tweeting for 1 year, 6 months, 2 weeks, 6 days, 14 hours, 37 minutes, 14 seconds (April 25, 2008). How about you? bit.ly/eC942 #
- 17:41 @polyg I nearly got a free ticket to see that tomorrow. Sadly they over allocated :0( Will go and see it though. #
- 17:45 @electricfields Perhaps your body has gone travelling to another time zone #

Such a nice night for mid-November at the 400 Bar. Athletes in Slacks (myspace) warmed up the crowd with their laidback loungey harmonizing sound that only two keyboarders and a guitarist can produce. The band claims all their songs are about love, except later on their hour-long set, they introduced a song about hating two guys from New York. They did finish strong with a cover of INXS's "Never Tear Us Apart", and that's what really matter.
The first time I heard about Swedish band Little Dragon, was in January. Ceji was really into them. Since we generally like Swedish bands here, I did try and keep up with their whereabouts. As it turns out, they're in the middle of their tour through the US to promote their sophomore album, Machine Dreams. Although the band's been here already, they confessed last night that this was their first time in Minneapolis.
They didn't do Ceji's favorite "Recommendation" song, but I though hands-down their best song played was "After The Rain", complete with an amazing ending.
From what I heard from their live set, their new songs seems to drifts from the R&B and Jazz influence to more electro and beats. I think the combination works well for them, especially since I like their big beats/electronica sound.

I've been to a lot of shows lately, and I can tell you that this was one of the best shows yet. They're heading their way to the East Coast, so definitely check them out. If they're not heading through your city, you should check out Machine Dreams, out now on Peacefrog Records.

Thursday night at the O2 felt like the longest time in a queue. Only one cash point was working and it was the slooowwwweeeessst cash point on the planet. No it was, I swear. I was ready to take out every penny I have by the time it was my turn. And to add insult to injury it charged for the withdrawal.
The lesson: always stock up on cash before you get to the O2, preferably from a Barclays cash point which are the fastest in the world. Fact. They almost anticipate what buttons you are going to press.
19 Nov - The Step Inn Fortitude Valley, Queensland w Mexico City & Sue Ray
27 Nov - The Tote Melbourne, Victoria. w James McCann’s Dirty Skirt Band, Black Pony Express & Little John.
An honourable mention also has to go to Jamie Hutchings. I'm sure he's being playing shows in some form or another since before the dawn of time. Always enjoyable.... and, it seems, about to embark on a tour of europe, so if you're over that way, be sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled. Or maybe just look at his website for tour dates (might be easier).
20 Nov 2009 - MUM at World Bar, Kings Cross, Sydney, 21 Nov 2009 - The Clubhouse (formerly Empire Corner Bar), Fortitude Valley

I am sitting at the dining table trying to organise Christmas Amazon orders to various family factions.
I am facing the open french windows and looking down to the bottom of the garden where, under a startling pink bower of Bourgainvillia, Sprog has set up a small table and chair. She has very carefully carried her bowl of porridge and her cup of milk down to her table. She is sitting in state, putting me in mind of a Victorian jungle explorer taking tea.
Wilf has gone down to bug her and she is distracting him by singing her very own version of jingle bells. Rattling a jingly baby toy she is lustily singing "Jingle bells! Jingle bells Jingle all the WAY!! (Hey!) Ohmah fahhh eddesterahhh! Amana OPEN SLEIGH (hey!)"
Wilf is clutching his nadgers and dancing from one foot to the other, laughing like a drain.
They are both starkers.
Life is good.
Just got back from seeing Muse. Brilliant as ever. Played a good mix of old and new stuff - just enough off the new album which suited me. No Stockholm Syndrome though.
Fab stage set and lights as you would expect from Muse playing an arena. Took loads of pics which need a severe edit but here are a three I've quickly grabbed off the camera. Need to go to bed and get some sleep now, got a busy day at work tomorrow :0(
